Description

The Orb Wooden Pendant Lamp is not a solid shell but a framework of curved wood slats around a central light, with deliberate gaps where the glow escapes. It contains the light within a sphere and releases it through the seams in strips that paint the walls with a lattice of warm shadow — the room doesn't just receive illumination, it receives a pattern. Choose Light wood, pale and birch-like, or Dark wood, walnut-toned with deeper shadows. The G4 LEDs (3W) are included, replaceable and dimmable.

At 2700K this is the warmest tone we make — closer to candlelight than standard 3000K — and dimmed to 20% the strips soften and blend, turning the orb from lamp into lantern. Needs 9 ft+ ceilings for dining: on an 8-ft ceiling the bottom sits only 54 inches from the floor, below the 60-inch minimum. A reinforced box is recommended (23.4 lbs).

UL Listed (File E321074) · CE Certified · 110–240V · Free insured worldwide shipping · 30-day returns · 4-year warranty with free replacement parts.

Design & Craftsmanship

A Wooden Lantern for Your Ceiling

The square canopy (16.9" × 16.9") is deliberately oversized and architectural, adding a flat geometric counterpoint to the organic sphere below. G4 is a standard bi-pin base found at any hardware store, and you reach through the gaps between the wood panels to swap a bulb in under a minute — unusual access for a fixture this sculptural.

Where It Fits

Living room (primary use): the orb is designed to be seen from all sides — centre it where it works as both ceiling light and hanging sculpture. The shadow pattern on the walls is a second design element that shifts through the day as daylight changes.

Bedroom (Dark wood): Dark wood at 2700K dimmed to 20% gives the most intimate, sleep-friendly result, the lattice shadow reading as a gentle lantern glow.

Dining room (either finish): centred over a round table, the spherical form mirrors the table shape — with 9 ft+ ceilings, or contact us for custom cable extensions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does light escape the wooden sphere? A: The orb is constructed from curved wood panels arranged with deliberate gaps between them. The LED bulb sits at the center of the sphere, and light passes outward through these gaps, projecting strips of warm light onto the surrounding walls and ceiling. The shadow between each strip is cast by the wood panels themselves. The result is a lattice pattern of light and shadow that is the fixture's signature visual effect.
Q: Light Wood vs Dark Wood — which one is more versatile? A: Light Wood (honey-blonde, birch-like tone) blends into light-toned rooms and adds a subtle natural accent without visual weight. Dark Wood (rich walnut tone) creates a deliberate focal point that stands out against lighter ceilings and walls. For rooms where the orb should be the star, Dark Wood is more impactful. For rooms where it should harmonize, Light Wood integrates more quietly.
Q: The canopy is 16.9" × 16.9" square — that seems large. Is it noticeable? A: The oversized square canopy is an intentional design decision — it creates a geometric ceiling element that contrasts with the organic sphere below. It is visible and meant to be. If your ceiling is white, the square canopy reads as a subtle architectural accent. If you prefer a less visible canopy, contact us to discuss custom options.
Q: Can the bulb be accessed without removing the fixture? A: Yes. The gaps between the wood panels are wide enough to reach inside the orb and access the G4 bulb socket. You do not need to unmount the fixture for bulb replacement — just reach through a gap, unclip the G4 bulb, and clip in the replacement.
Q: Is the wood treated for humidity — can I use this in a bathroom? A: This fixture is rated for dry indoor locations. The wood is finished but not sealed for high-humidity environments. Avoid installing in bathrooms, kitchens directly above steaming pots, or covered outdoor areas. Standard living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms are the intended environments.
Q: At $1,586 — how does this compare to similar wood pendant designs? A: Comparable sculptural wood pendant lamps from brands like Graypants (Scraplight), Tom Raffield (Cage), or David Trubridge range from $800 to $4,000+. At $1,586 with brightness-adjustable G4 LEDs, free shipping, and a 4-year warranty, this fixture sits in the mid-range of the premium wood lighting market with materials and craftsmanship that compete with the top tier.
Q: Does this work with 220V in Europe or Australia? A: Yes. Supports 110–240V worldwide. G4 LED bulbs are universally available.
